My List Of The Best Romantic Movies

In Inspiration by AnnRobieFashion15 Comments

I don’t classify myself as an ardent fan of romantic movies, but there are some movies that really stretch your understanding of life, feelings, relations and even youself. They change the way we think about love. They can be comedies or dramas, they can be slow or very dynamic, but they are united by one thing – after watching them you are swept away by emotions and these emotions linger for a long time after… A lot of us probably have a list of these kind of movies. These are the movies on my list of The Best Romantic Movies…

And, no, Twilight and Titanic are not included on my list of the best films about love :)

The Power of LOVE:

The Notebook (2004) – do you still need my comments? ;)

Legends of the Fall (1994) – “She was like the water that freezes inside a rock and breaks it apart. It was no more her fault than it is the fault of the water when the rock shatters”

If You Are The One (2008) – this movie also has the 2nd part which I like a little less than the first one – the first one just blew me away…

Gone With The Wind (1939) – “I can’t think about that right now. If I do, I’ll go crazy. I’ll think about that tomorrow”, “I can’t go all my life waiting to catch you between husbands”

My Blueberry Nights (2007) – “It took me nearly a year to get here. It wasn’t so hard to cross that street after all, it all depends on who’s waiting for you on the other side”

Chocolat (2000) – “Ah, good morning. Can I interest you in some nipples of Venus?”

One Day (2011) – “Whatever happens tomorrow, we had today”

If you want to laugh and you can follow multiple movie lines:

Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011) – yeah, the famous Emma Stone line about Ryan Gosling’s abs is from this movie :)

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) – [voice over] “random thoughts for Valentine’s day, 2004. Today is a holiday invented by greeting card companies to make people feel like crap”

He’s Just Not That Into You (2009) – “So trust me when I say if a guy is treating you like he doesn’t give a shit, he genuinely doesn’t give a shit. No exceptions”, “What if you meet the love of your life, but you already married somebody else, are you supposed to let them pass you by?”

(500) Days of Summer (2009) – “I love how she makes me feel, like anything’s possible, or like life is worth it”

What Women Want (2000) – “It’s never too late to do the right thing. That’s what I’ll do, I’ll go over there and do the right thing”

The Fifth Element (1997) – “What’s the use in saving life when you see what you do with it?”

Love Actually (2003) – “But you know, the thing about romance is… people only get together right at the very end”

Hitch (2005) – “Life is not the amount of breaths you take, it’s the moments that take your breath away”

Romantic Must Sees with Famous Soundtracks:

Dirty Dancing (1987) – soundtrack Time of my Life (Final Dance)

Pretty Woman (1990) – soundtrack It Must Have Been Love

Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) – soundtrack Moon River

Ghost (1990) – soundtrack Unchained Melody

A Man and A Woman (1966) – soundtrack

No Need to Watch 50 Shades of Grey After These:

Nine 1/2 weeks (1986) “How did you know? How did you know I’d respond to you the way I have? – I saw myself in you”

Basic Instinct (1992) – “Everyone that she plays with dies”

When Frendship Transforms Into Love:

Just Go with It (2011) – “I’m just happy to hear that his thing-a-ding can still ring-a-ding”

When Harry Met Sally (1989) – “You know, you may be the first attractive woman I’ve not wanted to sleep with in my entire life”

Some Like It Hot (1959) – “I wanna be loved by you, just you And nobody else but you”… :)

Something’s Gotta Give (2003) – Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton are incredible: “Harry, your heart attack could be the best thing that’s ever happened to me!”

Sabrina (1995) and (1954) – I love Julia Ormond’s Sabrina a little more than Audrey Hepburn’s… “More isn’t always better, Linus. Sometimes it’s just more.”, “What was Linus like as a boy? – Shorter”

The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996) – “But I love the old Rose! The one with no makeup and baggy clothes who loves ‘the perfect bite’! She eats carrots now, isn’t that tragic?”, “By the way, would telling you now that I want sex tonight be enough of a warning?”

Out Of Africa (1985) “If you say anything now… I’ll believe it”

So… If February 14th doesn’t really mean “romance” to you, I have a different list below :) These movies are still about love but a little less “romantic” and with a few more twists.

What is your favorite movies about love and relationships?

Wierd Love:

Leaving Las Vegas (1995) – Maybe it’s not the best movie to watch on a date night with your boyfriend, but it’s definitely a movie that’s worth watching because love can change a lot, but not everything in our life.

Conversations with Other Women (2005) – A unique movie because of its screen division – in the movie you see two points of view – hers and his – at the same time.

Corpse Bride (2005) – Another amazing Tim Burton cartoon.

Amour (2012) – The last Jean-Louis Trintignant movie, who was so young and handsome in A Man and A Woman (1966).

Angel-A (2005) – French movie-fantasy about love and angel.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008) – Rebecca Hall, Scarlett Johansson, Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz will make you to follow their weird passionate love ;)

Such a good breakdown of romantic movies! I am however a sucker for the typical twilight and titanic ones too haha. I think my favourites are romantic comedies though, because who doesn´t enjoy a good laugh?

  2. Gabrielle

You’ve written this post at a wonderful time considering Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! Gosh, this list is extensive and I love how you’ve categorised them. There’s a couple of them that I’ll be adding to my ‘to see’ list.. especially as my current romantic film list is fairly short haha. Have a lovely evening!

What a great list of romantic movies (especially with Valentine’s Day around the corner)! Thanks for sharing. I definitely haven’t watched everything on this list but there are a few of my favorites in there (like Hitch!)!
